A Creole fishing village tucked at the head of a bay, sheltered by the mountain.

The village

Deshaies, village de pêcheurs typiquement créole. C'est aussi une station touristique et balnéaire, l'un des plus beaux villages de notre île.

C'est un village blotti au fond d'une baie, protégé par la montagne, avec un bourg et un port charmants. Beaucoup de bateaux de croisière y font escale.

Swimming

The beaches

Grande Anse

A 300 metres from the cottages: a kilometre of golden sand lined with coconut palms, with restaurants and parking right by the beach. The busiest and the most family-friendly of the four.

La Perle

Just north of Grande Anse, a wide beach of pale sand shaded by sea grape trees, facing the Kahouanne islet. Wilder and quieter, and one of the settings for “Death in Paradise” — beware of the breakers, the beach is unpatrolled.

Cluny

About twenty minutes towards Sainte-Rose, a kilometre of ochre sand split in two by a rocky outcrop: shelters and shade to the north, swell and wide-open scenery to the south. A sea turtle nesting site — swim with care.

Rifflet

Beyond La Perle, a cove of golden sand lined with coconut palms, looking out to the Kahouanne and Tête à l’Anglais islets. Quiet, beautiful at sunset, and the start of the coastal path to Deshaies over the Gros Morne.

Scuba diving, notably at the Cousteau reserve, to see turtles and brightly coloured fish.
Fishing and boat trips.
Kayaking and paddleboarding on the lagoon.
Horse riding.
Walking trails and fine paths.
Treetop walkways high up near Les Mamelles.

The Deshaies Botanical Garden

Nearby lies the magnificent Botanical Garden, once Coluche’s estate, where superb tropical flowers and plants grow.

Death in Paradise, filmed in Deshaies

The English series “Death in Paradise” was filmed here for several years: the village, the beach and several filming locations can be visited freely.

A Canadian guest wrote a song about his stay at Amour Deshaies.
